Ah I see why… It’s very important to get the kids bikes
working properly The amount of times they arrive and the forks
are on backwards and the brakes aren’t connected On the first try I kept on falling off the
bike Look at that riding very nice indeed She only started yesterday?
Very very impressive Bikeability basically is teaching you guys
how to ride on the road safely And stop Initially we do level one which is basic
skills training so being able to control a bike being able
to look around signalling that sort of thing Right signal
One, two, woo! Keep pedalling And then we move on to the road
We do quiet roads we look at junctions We look at the way in which we ride on the
road where we position ourselves to give very clear messages to traffic about
where we are going And just communicating with other road users
not being scared of them It’s building confidence really I thought riding on the road was hard but
now I know it isn’t It’s easy actually Even as an experienced cyclist for thirty plus years
then doing the cycle training course I realised that my road positioning was all
wrong That’s it I was keen for my children to learn cycling
from an early age so we just made bikes available And that just worked they just took to it Cycling to school just that daily amount
of cycling. It’s not far but it’s every day It’s amazing what that does to their
general skill levels and confidence on the bike I didn’t cycle for about fifteen years and then
I started cycling again after working for Haringey The school that I’m working in now they promote
cycling so much I had to get involved because It was so much fun and
I wanted to be a part of it I’m a driver and I’ve become more sympathetic
to the cyclist because now I know how it feels to cycle I’m a driver and I’ve become more sympathetic

time to thirteen so it was massive and that was only from really cycling and running
from doing nothing to that My journey to work takes me through lots of
parks there’s lots of cycling routes I think there is always a safe way to cycle
so I wouldn’t let that deter anyone My journey to work takes me through lots of

three quarters of an hour If I cycle it’s half an hour most of which
is down the canal and it’s a really lovely route If you are like me you lack confidence a
little bit then just do it and gradually build up your confidence It makes you feel better about yourself it
makes you feel younger It’s just all good for you physically and mentally I also did a cycle maintenance course that
was organized by Haringey council I now carry my own toolkit with me for basic repairs I guess I’m reasonably fit but I’ve always
been overweight So don’t feel you can’t because maybe you

Power which is a cycling club for people of all ages with all disabilities We focus on people with learning disabilities
and at this festival we always attract people So she’s quite close to the lorry now – She’s just down here
– Literally down there and I can’t see her Just be really really cautious when you are
around lorries. They can’t necessarily see you I think the thing to do is teach people how
to be safe how to get in the right position She’s just down here

we are here because we can see but also we can be seen by traffic coming here. I was actualy a driving instructor before
but I prefer cycling. And also it costs so much less And it’s so much better for the environment
and for your own health. I don’t have to go showing you nice quiet cut through routes It’s good for you, good for your body and
good for your mind. It’s free And this borough is great for cycling Going out with a cycling instructor, letting
them build your confidence for you but also showing you nice quiet cut through routes. It’s good for you. Good for your body and

and the parks – the Parkland Walk for example There’s all this stuff and we’re just not
aware that it’s there and accessible and fun
