AFTER 15 YEARS OF DREAMING. A LOOK AT WHATS IN STORE – AND WHEN YOU CAN GET YOUR FIRST TASTE. KRISTIN: PLUS – A LOCAL STORE – GIVING AWAY FREE COMIC BOOKS – PUTTING SMILES ON BRAVE KIDS FACES…- RIGHT NOW AT 5. BO: GOOD EVENING, I’M BO WILLIAMS… KRISTIN: KRISTIN FARLEY. KRISTIN: IT BURNED FOR TWO DAYS AND FORCED MANY OF YOU TO LEAVE YOUR HOMES. BO: AND IT’S A SIGHT WE WON’T FORGET ANYTIME SOON… ALL THAT BLACK SMOKE BILLOWING ABOVE FROM THE FORT LOUDON WASTE AND RECYCLING CENTER. INVESTIGATORS LATER DETERMINING THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE TO BE LINKED TO A BACKFIRING FORKLIFT. KRISTIN: THE FIRE IS OUT. EVERYONE IS SAFE. BUT WE WANTED TO KNOW — WHAT IS THE COST OF THE FIRE TO TAXPAYERS? ON YOUR SIDE TONIGHT – REPORTER BLAKE STEVENS HAS BEEN LOOKING INTO THIS – AND JOINS US HERE IN THE STUDIO… BO: BLAKE, DO WE KNOW IF K-F-D IS OUT A LOT OF OVERTIME AND HOW MUCH? BLAKE: YES – AND IT’S THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. KNOXVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT STILL TALLYING UP THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF OVERTIME FROM THE FIRE. I’M TOLD AT FIRES’ PEAK — THERE WERE 65 FIREMEN ON THE CLOCK. SOME WERE ON DUTY AND SOME WERE CALLED IN…EARNING TIME AND A HALF. I’M TOLD ALL THE ADDITIONAL OVERHEAD WILL COME FROM K-P-D’S EXISTING BUDGET. A LOT OF SMOKE — A LOT OF WATER. DURING THE BULK OF THE FIRE, FROM ABOUT 3 OR 4 CLOCK ON UNTIL ABOUT THURSDAY THE NEXT MORNING, WE HAD THREE AERIAL DEVICES, THOSE ARE JUST ELEVATED STREAMS, EACH OF THOSE TOTALS WAS ABOUT 180,000 GALLONS AN HOUR. SO, IT WAS A LOT OF WATER WE PUT ON THERE. WHILE CAPTAIN CORCORAN SAYS IT COULD BE A COUPLE WEEKS BEFORE THE WEEKS BEFORE THE FIRE DEPARTMENT KNOWS EXACTLY HOW MUCH OVERTIME WILL COST — FOR THIS FIRE… HE SAYS THEY’VE SEEN MAJOR EVENTS LIKE THIS ONE BEFORE. THIS FIRE THAT HAPPENED LAST WEEK RANKS UP THERE WITH THE MULCH FIRE OF 2012, THE MCCLUNG WAREHOUSE, SOME OF THE BIGGER FIRES THAT THE CITY OF KNOXVILLE HAS SEEN IN HISTORY. THE MONEY TO PAY FOR IT ALL COMING FROM K-F-D’S BUDGET… WHICH DIRECTLY COMES FROM YOUR TAX DOLLARS. ANYTIME THAT WE HAVE A FIRE, WHETHER IT’S A RESIDENTIAL FIRE OR A BUSINESS FIRE IN THIS CASE, YOUR TAX DOLLARS, WE’RE TAX BASED, THE FIRE DEPARTMENT OPERATES OFF YOUR TAX DOLLARS. SO ANYTIME THEY HAVE A FIRE, THAT’S JUST PART OF OUR OPERATING COSTS. BLAKE: A K-U-B SPOKESPERSON TELLING ME TONIGHT K-F-D USED 7.62 MILLION GALLONS OF WATER. THAT’S 975 MILLION 360 THOUSAND OF THESE. THE VALUE IS ROUGHLY 11 THOUSAND, SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS. THAT SPOKESPERSON TELLING ME THAT WILL BE BILLED TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT — IN ADDITON TO WHAT THEY’RE NORMALLY BILLED EVERY MONTH FOR UNMETERED WATER USE. KRISTIN: THANK YOU BLAKE.. THE CITY’S FINANCE DIRECTOR SAYS THE CITY PAYS A FIRE HYDRANT SERVICE CHARGE TO K-U-B EACH YEAR. BO: HE SAYS IT’S JUST SHY OF THREE POINT THREE MILLION DOLLARS. KRISTIN: MORE CALLS TONIGHT – FOR OUR
